As health care costs continue to rise, more large businesses are planning to shift some of the burden to employees, according to a survey by the National Business Group on Health.
Key findings from the survey of 329 businesses:
- Employers estimate their health care benefit costs will increase an average of 7.2% in 2012, which is less than it was in 2011, at 7.4%, but it is a sharp increase.
- 53% of respondents plan to increase the percentage that employees contribute to their premiums.
- 39% plan to increase in-network deductibles.
- 25% plan to increase out-of-network deductibles, and 22% plan to increase out-of-pocket maximums.
