HHS awards $49 million in grants to improve the quality of health care

The Department of Health and Human Services awarded $49 million in grants to improve the quality of health care and strengthen the public health infrastructure, according to a press release. 

The release states that $35.8 million in Prevention and Public Health Fund dollars and $3.8 million in additional CDC funding will go to increasing epidemiology, laboratory and health information systems capacity.  Almost $9 million will be used to prevent healthcare-associated infections, and another $600,000 will be used to improve immunization infrastructure and programs.
