Number of hospitals with palliative care teams is growing

The number of palliative care teams within hospital settings has increased approximately 138% in the last ten years, according to a report by the Center to Advance Palliative Care. 

Other key findings from the report:

  • 63% of U.S. hospitals with more than 50 beds have a palliative care team.
  • Only 51% of hospitals in the south report having a palliative care team, while 73% of those in the Northeast have one.
  • 80% of hospitals with over 300 beds have a palliative care team, while only 22% of smaller hospitals with less than 50 beds report having a team.
