CMS releases proposed rule for mental health centers

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has issued a proposed rule that would establish conditions of participation for Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) for the first time, according to a press release.

According to the press release, the proposed rule  would establish standards in the following areas:

  • Convening of a treatment team, developing an active treatment plan, and coordinating services.
  • Creating a Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
  • Setting organization, governance, administration of services, and partial hospitalization services requirements.
  • CMHCs would be required to notify clients of their rights.

The agency will accept comments on the proposed rule through Aug. 16.
