TJC approves National Patient Safety Goal on CAUTI

The Joint Commission has approved a new National Patient Safety Goal that focuses on catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) for the hospital and critical access hospital accreditation programs set to go into effect in 2012, according to the Joint Commission.

The Joint Commission’s website states that CAUTI represents as much as 80 percent of HAIs in hospitals.  The new goal is to Implement evidence-based practices to prevent catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI).
