Employees paying more for health insurance

The average deductible for PPOs, the most common employer-provider health plan, rose to $1200 this year, up from $770 in 2005, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal.

The article states that total health benefit costs to employees rose 6.9% this year, up from 5.5% in 2009.  Other trends noted in the article are that half of the employers with over 20,000 employees now offer high deductable insurance plans, and that 28 percent of these large employers offer discounts on insurance policies to non-smokers.
