The AHA has launched “Hospitals in Pursuit of Excellence”, a platform to help hospital leaders improve patient experiences and outcomes based on the Institute of Medicine’s six aims for improvement. The initiative includes a guide with nearly 30 case studies focused on four improvement areas, six “principles of performance excellence,” and a Web site containing tools and resources from across the AHA.
“The intention is to provide hospital leaders a forum to share tools and examples of quality improvement initiatives,” says Stephen Mayfield, AHA senior vice president for quality and performance improvement and director of the AHA Quality Center. “
By focusing on quality improvement, leaders will improve clinical and financial outcomes.” The Web site will be continually updated with more tools from AHA and the field, and encourages hospitals to share their own innovative practices to improve patient care.
