HRET to launch safety-net hospital survey on quality

AHA’s Health Research & Educational Trust this month will begin surveying about 2,000 hospitals that serve many uninsured, low-income and minority patients to identify promising quality-improvement activities and high-performance models in the hospital safety net.

The first-of-its- kind project will survey safety-net hospital leaders about their organizational capacity to facilitate quality improvement, and use data from the AHA and Hospital Quality Alliance to examine the treatment provided to patients admitted with myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure and community-acquired pneumonia. Funded by a grant from the Commonwealth Fund, the project is a partnership with Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and the Boston University Health Policy Institute.
