New heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia performance data to be added to Quality Check

Beginning January 2010, The Joint Commission will add to its Quality Check Web site the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) 30-day readmission rates for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia Medicare patients.

According to the online report, the new data will complement data currently available on Quality Check as reported by CMS on 30-day death rates for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and the survey of patients’ hospital experience. At present, Quality Check displays performance on National Quality Improvement Goals for hospitals on selected performance measures in six treatment areas: children’s asthma care, heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, pregnancy and related conditions, and surgical care. These data are updated quarterly.
